Celebrating localness... and tapas.
Despite being known as one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in Barcelona, Sant Antoni remains strong to its traditions, keeping the restaurant vibe local for those who live nearby. We developed a restaurant concept that celebrated the protagonism of local fresh ingredients.
This project was done during my semester abroad at Escola Universitària de Disseny i Enginyeria de Barcelona.
WHAT DO YOU PUT
ON YOUR TAPAS?
CHALLENGE
To create a Tapa concept for a restaurant in Sant-Antoni.
PROCESS
We noticed this neighbourhood was torn between a high rise of tourism coming for a restaurant night out, and the locals found themselves missing a true Catalonian place that felt authentic. With Del Costat (meaning "next door" in Catalonian) we brought fresh local ingredients and sourced recipes directly from our visitors. By having a wall people could write their own idea of the best tapa, we created a buzz and matched it with a saturated visual identity.
SOLUTION

INSPIRATION
A mosaic of ingredients
We brought inspiration from the beautiful tiles of Barcelona to design our placemats. We took two of the most iconic ingredients in Tapas, jamón ibérico and olives, and imagined how a mosaic could look made out of them. You can see an animation below showing different possibilities:
User-generated recipes for tapas
Del Costat stands for next-door; we wanted to create a sense of community by allowing our guests to suggest their own recipes, suggestions or ingredients they would like to have on their next tapa. The restaurant will compile ideas out of the wall and have them on the menu if possible. We pride ourselves in also having fresh ingredients all sourced from Catalonia.
It doesn't get more authentic than this.
KEEPING OUR TAPAS AS LOCAL AS IT GETS
